How does the wifi gutter heating controller work?

The Heatline HL-RS moisture sensor is installed in a gutter or roof drainage area so that meltwater flows across the sensor surface. At the same time, the HL-AS outdoor sensor measures the ambient temperature.

The outdoor temperature sensor is normally installed on the north-facing side of the building in a location protected from direct sunlight. This allows the roof de-icing controller to measure the actual outdoor air temperature more accurately.

When the outdoor temperature is within the configured operating range and the gutter sensor detects moisture, the thermostat switches on the heating cables. After the moisture has disappeared, the gutter heating system can continue operating for the configured post-heating time, allowing the gutter and drainage route to dry.

Temperature- and moisture-based control helps reduce unnecessary electricity consumption compared with a system that operates throughout the cold season based only on outdoor temperature. The HL-RS gutter sensor should be cleaned of leaves and dirt before the beginning of each cold season.

Each extension module adds three independently configurable 16 A outputs and three sensor inputs. A fully expanded roof and gutter heating system can include up to 26 independently configurable outputs, making it suitable for apartment buildings, commercial properties, production facilities and logistics centres.

Installation

The HL-RS gutter sensor must be installed where snow melts and water flows towards the drainage system. The HL-AS outdoor sensor should be installed in a location protected from direct sunlight where it can measure the actual outdoor air temperature.

The HL-55-W thermostat is designed for DIN-rail mounting. Loads above 16 A and three-phase heating systems must be controlled through suitably rated contactors. Installation must be carried out by a qualified electrician.
