Self-Regulating Heating Cable for Water Pipes recommended use:
For internal pipe installations, we recommend using constant-wattage heating cables instead of self-regulating ones. They are more affordable and consume less energy, with a steady output of 7.5-10W/m. If you are unsure about the right option, feel free to ask us for advice.

How Does a Self-Regulating Heating Cable Work?
A self-regulating heating cable adjusts its output per meter depending on the ambient temperature, but never switches off completely, not even during summer! For example, the cable provides approx. 11W/m at +10°C in dry conditions. However, in a drinking water or sewer pipe, the cable should already be off when the pipe temperature exceeds +2°C. Energy efficiency can be significantly improved by using a socket thermostat, which ensures the cable is switched off when there’s no risk of freezing.
The cable includes a shielding layer, which makes it electrically safe. For in-pipe installations, we strongly recommend connecting the heating cable through a residual current device (RCD) for additional protection.
Based on practical experience, a self-regulating heating cable installed on an insulated pipe can heat the pipe to around +40–60°C even without a thermostat.

Installation on External Pipe Surface
For plastic pipes:
Apply aluminium tape along the full length under the heating cable.
Lay the heating cable onto the pipe.
Secure the cable over its entire length with aluminium tape for optimal heat distribution and quick transfer to the pipe.
For metal pipes:
Simply affix the heating cable directly using aluminium foil tape.
Tip: When selecting pipe insulation, choose one size larger to leave room for the cable between the pipe and the insulation.
Installation Inside the Pipe
The in-pipe heating cable is inserted using a compression fitting through a T-connector, as shown in illustrations (not included here).
The cable has a diameter of 9.5 mm at the end.
It must enter the pipe straight or with minimal bending – not suitable if there are shut-off valves or sharp angles (90° elbows).
In practice, for a 1″ pipe, the cable can be pushed in up to ~20 meters. Longer runs may require assistance tools.
In-pipe installation is ~20% more efficient than external application (when used with a thermostat), as it transfers heat directly into the water.

Note: Even with plastic pipes, freezing must never be allowed! Ice expands by ~9%, which can crack fittings and joints even if the pipe itself holds, leading to leaks.
