The Powerant 16A electricity spot price smart plug automatically controls a connected appliance according to Nord Pool electricity market prices. In the free Powerant app, you can select the cheapest periods of the day or set a maximum electricity price at which the appliance is allowed to operate.

The WiFi smart plug connects directly to a standard EU wall socket and can control compatible resistive electrical appliances with a rated current of up to 16 A or a power rating of up to 3.6 kW. It is suitable for electric water heaters, electric radiators, portable heaters and other plug-connected appliances whose operation can be shifted to cheaper electricity periods.

No monthly subscription is required.

How Does the Electricity Spot Price Smart Plug Work?

The smart plug connects to a 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network and retrieves updated electricity market prices through the internet. It then switches the connected appliance on or off according to the settings selected in the Powerant app.

You can configure the smart plug to:

  • operate during a selected number of the cheapest periods of the day;
  • switch on only when the electricity price is below a selected limit;
  • combine the cheapest-period setting with a maximum price limit;
  • distribute operating periods throughout the day;
  • follow a user-defined schedule;
  • be switched on or off remotely through the app;
  • use reverse switching logic when required.

Once configured, the smart plug works automatically. There is no need to check Nord Pool prices or switch the appliance manually every day.

Selecting the Cheapest Electricity Periods

In the Powerant app, you can choose how many of the cheapest periods the connected appliance should operate during each day.

For example, an electric water heater can be configured to operate during the eight cheapest periods of the day. When electricity prices change, the smart plug automatically selects the most economical operating times for the following day.

This is particularly useful for appliances whose operation can be shifted without significantly reducing comfort.

Setting a Maximum Electricity Price

You can also set a maximum electricity price at which the connected appliance is allowed to operate.

For example, the smart plug can switch an electric heater on only when the electricity price is below the selected threshold. When the price rises above that limit, the plug switches the appliance off.

The price limit can also be combined with the cheapest-period function. In this mode, the smart plug selects the cheapest periods but does not switch the appliance on if the price still exceeds the specified maximum.

Typical Applications

Electric Water Heater Control

An electric water heater is one of the most suitable appliances for electricity price-based control. Water can be heated during cheaper periods and stored for later use.

The Powerant smart plug can automatically operate the water heater during a selected number of the cheapest periods each day.

Electric Heating

The smart plug can be used with compatible electric radiators, portable heaters and other resistive heating appliances, provided that the appliance does not exceed the permitted load of 16 A / 3.6 kW.

Pool and Hot Tub Equipment

Compatible pool pumps, circulation pumps and heating equipment can be scheduled to operate during lower-priced electricity periods.

Battery and Tool Chargers

Batteries and power tools can be charged when electricity prices are lower or when the price falls below a selected limit.

The smart plug is not a substitute for dedicated electric-vehicle charging equipment. Use an appropriate EV charger for charging an electric vehicle.
